Kirby, developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo, is a series of platform games that focuses on action, puzzle-solving, and platforming elements. It was created for first-time gamers and serious gamers alike. The first Kirby game, Kirby's Dream Land (星のカービイ in Japan), was released on April 27, 1992. It was originally going to be called "Twinkle Popopo," but the name changed as well as Popopo's name.

Creation[]

HAL was a small company that didn't have well-known games. When 19-year-old Masahiro Sakurai came with the idea of Kirby, they became successful. Nobody remembers how Kirby got his name. Some say HAL named him after a man who protected Nintendo in a court case, and others say he was based off of the vacuum, which would explain Kirby's vacuum-like abilities.
